This package of cross section materials is designed to take students through understanding some of the most important concepts and skills in cross section work to completing complex cross section activities.
It is recommended that beginners start at exercise one while more advanced students will find exercise five on useful to them.-
This exercise asks students to interpret a simple cross section and apply their understanding of geological principles.
-
This exercise asks students to think in three dimensions, completing block diagrams. This is followed by a cross section with flat topography.
-
This exercise allows students to explore the concepts of dip and strike and how this impacts thickness of sediments at the surface.
-
This exercise continues the exploration of dip and strike and how it impacts surface thicknesses.
-
This exercise begins with a revision exercise around dip and strike, followed by completion of a simple geological map and cross section.
-
In this exercise students draw a geological map from a given description and then complete a cross section for this map.
-
This exercise asks students to draw and interpret a cross sections from a geological map (provided)..
-
This exercise ask students to interpret a complex geological map and then draw a cross section for it.
-
This exercise asks students to draw a cross section from a geological map and interpret it.
-
This exercise asks students to look at a more complex geological map to construct a cross section and to interpret it.
